First that all, This medicine is often referred to as the medicine of the soul, or the mirror of your consciousness.
People often feel concerned because it’s their first psychedelic experience. It doesn’t matter if this is your first time working with ancestral plant medicines — what truly matters is approaching it with a clear intention about what you seek to discover through this medicine of ancestral wisdom, and understanding that it is not something to pursue merely for entertainment.
You should always inform the facilitators if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or are taking any medication, as this will help ensure a safe experience. It’s also essential to make sure that the person guiding your process is a true shaman. This can be verified through accreditation from the Indigenous community, which the shaman should show you before the ceremony begins.
It’s important to understand that this medicine works on three levels: physical, mental, and spiritual.
- On a physical level:
you will feel the medicine as a bitter taste, although everyone describes it differently. At times, you may experience sensations such as cold, heat, body tremors, aches, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. It’s important to understand that both vomiting and diarrhea are part of the purge — a process that involves not only cleansing the body, but also the mind, spirit, and energetic field.
It’s also important to know that some participants do not experience vomiting or diarrhea, although this is not very common. What’s essential to understand is that any physical sensations you may feel during your process are signs that the medicine is healing your energy. This medicine works primarily on your energetic field, which is why you might experience pain, cramps, or tremors — these are normal sensations. It’s simply the way the medicine operates within your energy body. These effects usually last for the first two hours of the ceremony. ( 2 or 3 times )
2. mental job
Next comes the mental phase (2), which is considered one of the most important parts of the process, as it is often referred to as the ‘mirror of your consciousness.‘ This is when intense experiences may arise such as anxiety, sadness, crying, or fears.
It is also the stage where participants sometimes report seeing disturbing visions, such as demons, animals, or other unsettling images.
However, what is most important for the participant to understand is that this is merely a reflection of their own mind and consciousness. It is the Ayahuasca showing them what resides within. The experience acts as a mirror, revealing both the conscious and unconscious aspects of the self. Understanding this is key to navigating the process with clarity and openness.
This is why the unconscious is often more difficult to recognize during the process — but it is always a journey between you and yourself. That is the essence of personal growth. In such moments, the shaman steps in to support your process through prayers and sacred songs known as icaros, which are used to guide and protect you during the ceremony. It is usually then that the shaman will encourage you to focus on your breath and begin a process of acceptance.
Through conscious breathing and surrender, you allow yourself to move forward more easily. Acceptance is the most important aspect of this phase of the journey.
3. spiritual job
Spiritual work is the third stage of your process, and it typically unfolds after you have gone through the second stage. That’s why acceptance and conscious breathing in the previous phase are so essential.
In this third stage, what many call the ‘expansion of consciousness’ takes place a moment of deep understanding and insight into what you were seeking. This is also where encounters with the so-called Higher Self often occur — an inner teacher that offers guidance, clarity, and important life lessons. During this stage, many people report having spiritual experiences such as encounters with Jesus, Buddha, or other ascended beings.
Some describe communicating with deceased loved ones, while others report contact with beings from other planets or spiritual entities from different dimensions.
This stage is also where many participants report seeing fractals, vivid visual patterns, and colors associated with their chakras — all of which are expressions of the divine presence within each individual. It is often said that people who did not previously believe in God may return from the experience with a renewed sense of faith and a deeper spiritual connection. This is the part of the journey where the gifts that the medicine has for you begin to arrive. Ayahuasca always brings gifts, insights, healing, and revelations that align with your soul’s path.
This stage can last another 2 to 3 hours, bringing the total duration of the experience to approximately 7 or 8 hours.
However, this may vary depending on whether you drank one or two cups, as participants are often given the option to take a second dose. After the medicine has taken you to very deep places, you gradually return to this dimension. At first, you may feel weak, but within the next 30 minutes you will start to regain your strength. It’s very important to stay well hydrated during this time. You may also drink a soup, an electrolyte solution, or a sports drink like Gatorade to help restore your energy.
Once you are fully back in » this dimension «, the shaman will come to you to help integrate your experience. He will talk with you, answer any questions you may have, and then perform a spiritual closing using a sacred plant known as guayra.
After this ritual, you are free to return home. It’s important to understand that the Ayahuasca journey is not limited to a single ceremony. It is an ongoing process through which you receive lessons gradually and grow over time. Also, keep in mind that the medicine doesn’t always give you what you want,,
«Ayahuaca gives you what you need at this moment in your life «
