Where to Experience an Ayahuasca Ceremony in Colombia ?

There are many places where you can experience Ayahuasca in Medellín, Colombia, but what truly matters is the guidance of the taita or shaman who will lead the Ayahuasca ceremony.

In Medellín, you can find Ayahuasca experiences ranging from the most affordable to the most luxurious. These ceremonies can be conducted during the day or at night, in the city or on its outskirts. However, performing the ceremony within the city is not recommended, as cities are associated with low-frequency energies that may not be conducive to an optimal Ayahuasca experience.

Popular locations in Medellín for Ayahuasca ceremonies include Llano Grande and Santa Elena, near Arví Park, to the east of the city. Other notable spots are La Estrella, located in the north of Medellín, and Copacabana, towards the southern limits of the city. One of the most renowned locations is in Guarne, situated east of Medellín. Among the frequently visited areas, Santa Elena stands out as a common destination for these ceremonies.

What is the Most Important Thing to Keep in Mind When Doing Ayahuasca in Medellín?

There are many factors to consider, but the most important of all is the taita who will guide the ceremony. Since this is a spiritual practice, it must be led by a qualified spiritual guide. Not just anyone can administer Ayahuasca. Unfortunately, in many places around the world, this practice is carried out irresponsibly.

Today, DMT (dimethyltryptamine, the active compound in Ayahuasca) is even sold by the gram without any spiritual guidance. It is crucial to understand that consuming DMT immerses you in a spiritual world, opening spiritual windows that, if mishandled, could result in spiritual possession by low-energy entities.

In Medellín, there are many people who claim to be taitas without the proper knowledge or training. To ensure a safe and transformative experience, it is essential to participate in a properly organized Ayahuasca retreat in Colombia or a well-guided Ayahuasca ceremony in Colombia led by certified and experienced shamans.

What is a Taita?

A Taita is often referred to as a shaman in many places, but this is not the correct term in Medellín. In indigenous culture, a shaman is considered a spiritual practitioner who works with low energies or frequencies, often referred to as demons.

A Taita, on the other hand, is a human being with a high spiritual level, chosen by an indigenous community to serve as the spiritual guide for the entire community. This role is granted based on merits, many years of spiritual work, and extensive knowledge. Becoming a Taita requires years of experience and dedication. Unlike shamans, Taitas only work with high-frequency energies directed toward God, acting as a channel for divine energy to facilitate spiritual transformation.

The Importance of a Good Taita ( shaman )

It is crucial to select a good Taita, as they are the ones equipped to handle patients contaminated by low-frequency energies or those experiencing spiritual possession. Not everyone has the ability to perform such work effectively.

Another important aspect when choosing a Taita is their expertise in preparing Ayahuasca. There are over 75 different types of Ayahuasca, and it must be combined with another plant, Chacruna, for proper use. The preparation process is complex and can take up to 8 days of cooking to achieve the correct thickness and potency.

For this reason, it is common to encounter diluted versions of Yagé that resemble panela water in consistency. A skilled Taita ensures the preparation is done correctly, offering a safe and authentic experience.

Another important aspect is ensuring that Ayahuasca is not mixed with other plants that could harm participants. In some cases, harmful substances, such as traces of scopolamine, the Borrachero plant, or Sabanero Cacao, have been found. Unfortunately, it is common to encounter Ayahuasca ceremonies where individuals seek to exploit participants, stealing their belongings or administering substances that are not genuine Ayahuasca.

When participating in an Ayahuasca ceremony in Medellín, it is essential to ask the Taita for their credentials certifying them as a Taita. A true Taita is the ideal person to guide this experience and is required to have indigenous certification that officially accredits them for this sacred work.

This is the reason why there have been cases of adverse effects where the patient may end up in a hospital. These incidents can occur whether the patient is given pure Ayahuasca or if it is combined with certain medications, such as antibiotics.

It is also important to consider if the patient has any heart disease, psychotic disorders, or epilepsy, as these are absolute contraindications.

For all these reasons, it can be concluded that while there are many places where you can experience Ayahuasca in Medellín, the most important factor is choosing the right guide or Taita to lead the ceremony.
