A Love Story That Led to Ayahuasca
It all started with a love story that lasted four and a half years in the city of Medellín, Colombia. After all that time, everything came to an end—the relationship was over, and I couldn’t believe it. I did everything I could to save this love story, but it was in vain; it was truly over.
I cried for over a year, to the point where I thought I was going to lose my mind because I no longer had the love of my life.
After crying endlessly and going through psychologists and multiple therapies—even regression therapy—nothing seemed to work. Then, I met a friend who lives in Medellín, Colombia, who suggested I try an Ayahuasca ceremony.
He told me that he had experienced it himself and had found healing after a breakup with his ex-partner, who also lived in Medellín. He mentioned that Ayahuasca had helped him move on from a lost love.
On the day of the experience, I was picked up at a designated location in Medellín, Colombia, by the friendly staff of Psychotravels, who gave me a warm welcome. In a private vehicle, along with several other participants—mostly foreigners, which gave me even more confidence—we headed to Guarne, a town located about 40 minutes from Medellín.
The ceremony took place in a breathtaking setting, surrounded by lush nature, colorful birds, and towering trees that created a serene and welcoming atmosphere.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a shaman, known as a Taita—a title given to someone of high spiritual wisdom and advancement. He warmly welcomed us and guided us to sit in a circle, where he provided an introduction to the experience we were about to undertake.
Though I still felt nervous about the unknown, the Taita’s calming presence and explanations helped ease my anxiety. After the introduction, he began preparing the Ayahuasca, also known as Yagé in Medellín, Colombia, marking the beginning of a profound journey.
Everyone was given a small cup of a brown liquid with a strong, wine-like flavor. Up to this point, everything seemed normal. I prepared my space near the campfire, ready to lie down, and spent about 20 minutes talking with my companions.
Soon after, I began to feel weak and started hearing loud noises—as if I could perceive every animal in the forest. Then, colorful shapes began to appear before my eyes, accompanied by angelic sounds that filled the air.
At that moment, I felt the love I once carried for my past relationship begin to fade away. This realization overwhelmed me with emotion, and I entered a deep state of crying, as all the sadness I had suppressed rose to the surface.
About two hours later, I began to feel self-love being restored within me by this powerful medicine. I thought to myself, «Wow, this is the most wonderful thing I have ever experienced.»
I also gained a deep understanding of many aspects of life—the beauty of being alive, the happiness life has to offer, and the value of the people around me, especially my family. I realized how much they mattered and that the person I had cried over was not worth it. At that moment, I knew that my self-love had fully returned.
When I woke up, I felt an overwhelming sense of love—for myself and for all the beings around me. I felt love for life, for nature, and I understood the true meaning of God. I realized that God is everything that surrounds us—the love present in all of creation and the same love that resides within each and every one of us. I understood that we are all part of God himself.
